Fishing line can be roughly divided into two categories: monofilament line and composite braided line in terms of shape. The former are mainly nylon threads and carbon threads with high elasticity, while the latter are mainly composite braided threads with extremely low elasticity (high-strength polyethylene fibers). Nylon is referred to as PA, the scientific name is polyamide fiber, and it is called “nylon” internationally. Nylon trimmer line has the characteristics of high strength, wear resistance and good resilience. Nylon thread has a certain degree of water absorption, and the strength will decrease by about 10% after absorbing water. Nylon is alkali-resistant but not acid-resistant, and sunlight will cause the nylon thread to age rapidly, resulting in a decrease in the strength of the thread. Usually, the fishing line should be kept away from light, and should not be exposed to the air for a long time.
The fishing line can be retracted after being stretched, called “elastic”, and the inability to retract after being stretched is called “plastic”, or “plastic deformation”. Nylon lines is highly elastic fishing lines. The elongation at break of a good nylon fishing line will be about 24%, and the elongation at break of carbon line is only about 20%.
